In 2026, the American Nurses Association (ANA) celebrates its 130th anniversary — the official Year of The Power of Nurses®. What began 130 years ago has grown into the American Nurses Enterprise — ANA, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) — built to serve nurses at every stage of their careers, across all roles and settings. As we celebrate 130 years of ANA, we look back at the Enterprise's collective impact in 2025 and ahead to what comes next. Every certification earned, every dollar invested, every policy changed, and every story told carries forward the legacy of the nurses who came before and the future-forward vision of a healthier world through The Power of Nurses.
In 2025, ANA strengthened its commitment to nurses through relentless advocacy against a Department of Education proposal to exclude nursing from "professional degree" programs, sustained attention to the risks of Medicaid cuts, publication of the revised Code of Ethics for Nurses, the inaugural Opportunity & Impact in Nursing Summit, and expanded membership options nationwide.

More than 95% of members also belong to their Constituent and State Nurses Associations (C/SNAs), and 16 C/SNAs now offer bulk memberships, up 32% over 2024.

ANA's petition calling on the Department of Education to keep nursing classified as a "professional degree" gathered more than 240,000 signatures. During Hill Day, 570 nurse advocates met with 337 legislators, and nearly 2,700 nurses participated in a virtual Nurses Day of Action.

Nurses claimed 471,141 CNE credits in 2025, backed by the newly revised Code of Ethics for Nurses and three new and revised Specialty and Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice publications.

Through the Reimagining Nursing Initiative, ANF funded 35 grants and 21 scholars and fellows in 2025, supporting frontline solutions such as the CONCERN Early Warning System and ChristianaCare's nursing robotics fellowship.

Built on the Stress First Aid model, ANF's Nurse Well-Being: Building Peer and Leadership Support program is now expanding into rural and long-term care settings through new mini-grants funded by the United Health Foundation.
